Praise for APPP Learning Week Event, Accra

APPP researchers praise "Learning Week"

Researchers at the Africa Power and Politics Programme (APPP) Learning Week praised the research consortium for providing a platform to discuss issues relating to the activities of its various research streams.

Participants called for more of such meetings in future as a means of strengthening coordination among the research streams and providing a platform for the exchange of research experiences.

At a short closing ceremony, participants expressed satisfaction at the outcomes of the workshop, saying that it has contributed significantly to their understanding of the APPP research agenda.

“I am understanding the APPP better. When I joined last year, I did not know many things. For us who are doing policy engagement at the local level, the workshop has broadened our frame,” said Rose Mary Kaduru, a participant from Uganda and a member of the APPP Management Board.

Mr Charles Ankisiba, an APPP-associated PhD student at the Institute of Development Studies, Sussex, said “the workshop was quite informative and has helped me to situate what I am doing with the APPP programme. I particularly enjoyed the session on the methodologies and the various approaches being adopted in the various countries”, he remarked.

“I am particularly impressed with the way we penetrated policy making,” said Mr Edward Munyaburanga from Rwanda. The discussions on policy engagement and writing skills were very useful and will help me in my work,” he observed.

In his closing statement, Mr Kojo Asante, Head of Programmes of CDD, said the workshop has helped the team to build strong linkages and clarified preparations for upcoming research in Rwanda and Uganda, some of which will involve Ghanaian researchers from CDD.
